About Istanbul

Istanbul is Turkey’s most populous city as well as its cultural and financial hub. Formerly the Roman city of Constantinople (330–1453), it was built on the site of the ancient Greek city of Byzantium. Located on both sides of the Bosphorus, the narrow strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. Istanbul bridges Asia and Europe both physically and culturally. Istanbul’s population is estimated to be between 12 and 19 million people, making it also one of the largest cities in Europe and the world.

For centuries, Istanbul has been the subject of countless songs, poems, and stories. The city has never ceased to amaze and inspire world-famous artists. Some people, however, may need to take a step back and see the bigger picture in order to fully appreciate the beauty of Istanbul.
